Runes are items that you can find in the world in the Season of Discovery of WoW Classic. Runes can be assigned to equipment slots and give your character powerful passive effects. This WoW SoD Priest Runes guide explains which Priest runes are new in Phase 4, which Priest runes are already available in SoD, and how you can get them. How to Get Penance in SoD
You get the Penance rune (Hands) at level 2 in your starting zone in the Season of Discovery as follows:
Dwarf:
- Get the level 2 quest
Meditation on the Light from Branstock Khalder in Dun Morogh (29 66).
- Loot the chest at 26.7 / 72.6 to get
Memory of a Troubled Acolyte.
- Return to Anvilmar and kneel (/kneel) before the altar in the room of the
Priest trainer. You’ll get the Meditation buff and can learn the rune.

Meditation on the Light from Priestess Anetta in Elwynn Forest (50 40).
- Kill the Kobolds in the Echo Ridge Mine in the north until
Memory of a Troubled Acolyte drops.

You get the Prayer of Mending rune (Legs) in the starting zones in the Season of Discovery as follows:

- West of Kharanos, you will find Adventurer's Remains (43 50). Right-click on it to summon a portal.

How to Get Twisted Faith in SoD
You get the Twisted Faith rune (Chest) in the level 10+ quest zones in the Season of Discovery as follows:
Loch Modan:
- Kill Kobolds in the Kobold Cave (36 19) until you get
Offering Coin.
- Go to the well, also in the cave, and throw
Offering Coin into it. As you walk into the cave, the well is directly to the left in the first branch of the cave.
- Kill Kobolds in the Kobold Cave (36 19) until you get
Westfall:
- Drops from the elite enemy Undying Laborer in the Gold Coast Quarry. The mob must be defeated with holy damage.
Darkshore:
- Kill Naga until you get
Shatterspear Offering.
- Then jump into the pit in the Ruins of Mathystra and use
Shatterspear Offering on an underwater statue.
- Kill Naga until you get
Silverpine Forest:
- Drops from Wailing Spirit around 60 74 south of Ambermill.
The Barrens:
- Kill Razormane mobs until you receive
Helping Hand.
- Then use
Resurrection on someone to open the hand that gives you
Twisted Faith.
- Kill Razormane mobs until you receive
How to Get Shadow Word: Death in SoD
You get the Shadow Word: Death rune (Hands) in the level 10+ quest zones in the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Obtain
Prophecy of a King's Demise as follows:
Loch Modan:
- Way #1: Kill Mo'grosh Enforcer.
- Way #2: Kneel in front of the Heretic Idol (72 27).
Westfall:
- Kill Leprithus.
Darkshore:
- Interact with a glowing orb on a small island near the docks in Auberdine at (30 47).
Silverpine Forest:
- Go to Fenris Island and climb the tower. Above you will find a scroll on a table at Thule Ravenclaw that you can loot.
The Barrens:
- Find Desert Mirage west of Ratchet around (58.9 37.6).
- Cast
Dispel Magic on Desert Mirage, causing it to die instantly.

How to Get Circle of Healing in SoD
You get the Circle of Healing rune (Hands) in Duskwood in the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Obtain
Dark Insight by killing Defias Enchanter, Defias Night Blade, and Defias Night Runner in Duskwood.
- Go to the secluded grave in the northeast of Darkshire at (90 30).
To learn the rune of Dark Insight, you must have 2 different Meditation buffs active. The easiest way to get a second Meditation buff is to kneel before a priest of a different faith. The other priest must then pray while targeting you.
How to Get Power Word: Barrier in SoD
You get the Power Word: Barrier rune (Legs) by killing Elite mobs in Redridge Mountains in the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Kill Blackrock Shadowcaster in Stonewatch in Redridge Mountains until you receive
Prophecy of a City Enthralled.
To learn the rune of Prophecy of a City Enthralled, you must have 2 different Meditation buffs active. The easiest way to get a second Meditation buff is to kneel before a priest of a different faith. The other priest must then pray while targeting you.
How to Get Strength of Soul in SoD
You get the Strength of Soul rune (Chest) in Ashenvale in the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Obtain
Primal Insight by killing Thistlefur mobs in Ashenvale.
- In Ashenvale, climb the tree at (38 29). Use
Primal Insight next to the dream catcher. You will receive
Prophecy of Seven Visitors.
To learn the rune of Prophecy of Seven Visitors, you must have 2 different Meditation buffs active. The easiest way to get a second Meditation buff is to kneel before a priest of a different faith. The other priest must then pray while targeting you.
How to Get Serendipity in SoD
You get the Serendipity rune (Chest) by buying it in Ratchet in the Season of Discovery as follows:
Update: Since the hotfix on April 16, 2024, you can buy Harmonious Epiphany directly from Grizzby in Ratchet for 3g. It is no longer necessary to deliver the items listed below. We don’t know yet if there is a minimum level requirement to buy. We can confirm that you can already buy the rune at level 11.
The following steps are no longer necessary to get the rune:
- Go to Ratchet in the Barrens and talk to Grizzby in the Inn (62 39). For his quests, you have to collect the following materials:
- 24x
Fish Oil:
- Drops from Murlocs and Naga e.g. in Hillsbrad Foothills.
- 20x
Dark Iron Ordinance:
- Drops from Level 27 – 31 Elite Dark Iron Dwarves in Wetlands.

Shredder Autosalvage Unit on Venture Co. Light Shredder in Stonetalon Mountains around Windshear Crag (not a guaranteed drop).

You've Got Yourself A Deal from Master Wood or
You've Got Yourself A Deal from Zel'mak which leads you back to Grizzby in Ratchet.

If you can’t see the quest, your character level is too low. the quest should be available at level 20.
How to Get Mind Sear in SoD
You get the Mind Sear rune (Hands) by turning in Waylaid Supplies and Supply Shipments for reputation in the Season of Discovery as follows:
Alliance:
- Can be purchased from the Azeroth Commerce Authority faction once Friendly has been achieved.
Horde:
- Can be purchased from the Durotar Supply and Logistics faction once Friendly has been achieved.

How to Get Empowered Renew in SoD
You get the Empowered Renew rune (Waist) in the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Thousand Needles: Drops from Grimtotem mobs (e.g. Grimtotem Stomper and Grimtotem Bandit) around the lake south of The Great Lift.
- Alterac Mountains: Drops from Crushridge Ogre in the mountainous area between the Ruins of Alterac and Strahnbrad.
How to Get Pain Suppression in SoD
You get the Pain Suppression rune (Feet) in Scarlet Monastery: Library in the Season of Discovery as follows:
Tip: You can skip the first step if you run Scarlet Monastery: Library with another priest who has collected the four echos and can activate the statues to spawn the rune (thanks for this tip sent in via our feedback button).
- Collect the following four echos in any order:
Graveyard Echo: click on a grave in the southwest corner of Scarlet Monastery: Graveyard.
Arathi Echo: on a grave at Go’shek Farm in Arathi Highlands (62.2 54.5).
Theramore Echo: in the graveyard outside of Theramore in Dustwallow Marsh (63.7 42.5).
Swamp Echo: Splinterspear Junction (16.7 53.7) in Swamp of Sorrows
- Go to Scarlet Monastery: Library.
- Use the echos to activate the four statues in the library in the following order (see map below for the exact statue locations):

How to Get Renewed Hope in SoD
You get the Renewed Hope rune (Waist) in Desolace the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Kill Naga in Desolace (on the coast northwest of Thunder Axe Fortress) until you get
Unsettling Vision.
Mind Control a Slitherblade Tide Priestess to get their
Meditation on the Abyss buff (lasts 30 seconds).
- Use
Unsettling Vision while the buff is still active to get the rune.
How to Get Mind Spike in SoD
You get the Mind Spike rune (Waist) at level 30 in the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Find the Extinguished Fire at the Kodo Graveyard in Desolace at 47.5 54.6. You’ll get the quest
Highway Robbery (requires level 30).
- Go to Bibbly F'utzbuckle northeast of the Kodo Graveyard at 62.2 38.8 and turn in the quest. You’ll get the quest
On the Lam.
- Go to Booty Bay in Stranglethorn Vale. Turn in the quest at Tokal in the Booty Bay Inn (27.0 77.2). You’ll get the quest
Cherry for Your Thoughts?.
- Buy
Cherry Grog from Nixxrax Fillamug.
- Turn in the quest at Tokal. You’ll get the quest
No Honor Among Thieves.
- Use the rowboat found at 53 91 on the Arathi Highlands map. It will teleport you to the eastern shore.
- Talk to Illari Duskfeather at the docks (93.8 71.4 on the Arathi Highlands map).
- Fight Illari Duskfeather and loot her bag to get
Illari's Key. Note:
Night Elves have the option to talk to her peacefully without a fight.
Tip: If someone has just fought her, you can loot the key from her bag as well. Then wait for her to respawn, talk to her and you can continue to the next step without a fight. - Open the chest near Illari Duskfeather at the docks to turn in the quest. You’ll get
Jewel-Encrusted Box which contains
Rune of the Mind.
How to Get Dispersion in SoD
You get the Dispersion rune (Feet) in the Season of Discovery as follows:
Note: The first 2 steps are optional. The quest The Troll Scroll is not required to get the rune. You can start with step 3. In case you want to get the quest first, it is possible to skip the first two steps by sharing the quest with another priest who has already completed them.
- [Optional] Find a
Rogue player who has already gotten
Master of Subtlety and
Jani's Charm. The
Rogue needs to pickpocket trolls in Stranglethorn Vale until
Mysterious Troll Scroll drops.
- [Optional] Find a
Mage player that uses
Comprehension Charm on
Mysterious Troll Scroll to turn it into
Deciphered Troll Scroll. It starts the quest
The Troll Scroll.
- Go to the Naga Fountain in the south of Stranglethorn Vale (28.9 62.0) and loot
Holy Spring Water.
- Make sure that you have 2 different Meditation buffs active.
- Go to the Ruins of Zul’Kunda in the north of Stranglethorn Vale where Gan'zulah spawns (23.8 8.6).
- Use
Holy Spring Water next to the fountain near Gan'zulah. This causes an interactable waterfall to spawn.
Note:Holy Spring Water is consumed on use. If you fail, you’ll need to start again at Step 3.
- Loot the waterfall to get the rune.
How to Get Spirit of the Redeemer in SoD
You get the Spirit of the Redeemer rune (Feet) in the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Talk to Dalaran Agent in Ariden’s Camp in eastern Deadwind Pass (52.0 34.6). You’ll get
Ariden's Sigil.
- Equip
Ariden's Sigil (or be with a player who has equipped it).
- Kill all 7 Dark Rider found around the following locations and obtain their relics. You will get the
Dark Presence buff when you’re in the right spot. Then use
Ariden's Sigil to reveal the Dark Rider.

- Reach Friendly with the Emerald Wardens faction by participating in Nightmare Incursions.
- Buy
Nihilist Epiphany for 1g 60s from one of the following Emerald Wardens Quartermasters:
- Quartermaster Alandra south of [Seradane] in The Hinterlands (61.2 34.6).
- Quartermaster Falinar at The Twilight Grove in Duskwood (45.6 51.2).
- Quartermaster Kyleen northeast of Satyrnaar in Ashenvale (89.6 40.6).
- Quartermaster Valdane north of The Twin Colossals in Feralas (48.1 12.7).
How to Get Pain and Suffering in SoD
You get the Pain and Suffering rune (Head) in Tanaris in the Season of Discovery as follows:
Note: You can skip steps 1-4 if you form a party or raid group with a player who has already completed them. Kill Enraged Voidwalker together and all group members will get the rune (make sure you hit the mob).
- Kill Wastewander Shadow Mage and Wastewander Thief east of Gadgetzan in Tanaris until you get
Coded Warlock Notes and
Wastewander Cipher.
- Note:
Coded Warlock Notes and
Wastewander Cipher are tradeable and can be bought at the Auction House.
- Note:
- Combine the two items to get
Deciphered Warlock Notes.
- Find the Cryptic Scroll of Summoning at 58.8 36.6 on the ground (not clickable).
- Stand on the scroll and use
Deciphered Warlock Notes. This will cause the level 43 elite Enraged Voidwalker to spawn.
Note: Enraged Voidwalker is immune to all shadow spells and you will loseDeciphered Warlock Notes on summon. Be prepared with holy spells if you plan to solo it.
- Kill Enraged Voidwalker to get
Prophecy of Verdant Winter and learn the rune from it.
Note: The class Shaman also gets one of their runes this way.
How to Get Surge of Light in SoD
You get the Surge of Light rune (Wrists) in the Season of Discovery as follows:
Note: Echo of a Lost Soul only spawns between 9 pm and 6 am server time.
- Between 9 pm and 6 am server time, find an Echo of a Lost Soul at one of the following locations:
- Tanaris: at 53.8 28.8 (Gadgetzan graveyard)
- Swamp of Sorrows: at 50.2 62.0 (Stonard graveyard)
- Stranglethorn Vale: at 40.8 58.4 (Ruins of Aboraz)
- The Hinterlands: at 72.8 67.8
- Kill Echo of a Lost Soul with Arcane damage, Holy damage (e.g. multiple
Holy Fire),
Starshards, or an Arcane wand.
- Loot
Prophecy of the Lost Tribe.
How to Get Eye of the Void in SoD
You get the Eye of the Void rune (Head) in the Season of Discovery as follows:
- Collect the following 7 eyes in any order:
Pulsating Eye: In Blasted Lands at 49 14 on top of the tower (slow fall from the hill).
Baleful Eye: In Stranglethorn Vale at 33 88 on a table behind Captain Stillwater.
Glowing Eye: In The Hinterlands at 58.4 72.7 on a table in Jintha’Alor.
Oozing Eye: In Tanaris at 56.4 73.7 in the middle of the room in the Silithid hive in The Gaping Chasm.
Piercing Eye: In Felwood at 36.5 55.8 inside Jaedenar (entrance at 35.3 58.7).
Burning Eye: In Feralas at 57.3 68.7 in the northwest tower in Ruins of Isildien, behind a Night Elf NPC.
Vibrating Eye: In Searing Gorge at 43.8 45.8 in the Slag Pit. To reach it, go to 45.3 50.2, stand backward on the cliff, and walk off to land safely at the bottom.
- Go to the Shrine of the Watcher at 89.8 33.6 in Azshara and /kneel at the shrine. You’ll get the quest
Seven Eyes I Seek....
Note: If you don’t get the quest, reload and it should be there. - Turn in the quest and you’ll get the rune.
How to Get Despair in SoD
You get the Despair rune (Wrists) in the Season of Discovery as follows:
Note: The classes Warlock,
Paladin, and
Mage also get one of their runes this way. You can do the following steps in a raid group.
- Collect 4x
Worldcore Fragment by using one of the following methods:
- Use
Scroll of Spatial Mending on Fel Portals (the scroll can e.g. be bought in the Auction House).
- Buy
Worldcore Fragment in the Auction House as it is no longer soulbound.
- Alternatively, a
Mage in your group can use
Scroll of Geomancy in the following step.
- Note: You can get the rune in a raid group. You’ll only need a total of 4x

The Wild Gods from Shadowtooth Emissary in the Emerald Sanctuary in Felwood (51.6 82.0). Note: The quest requires level 40 and is not sharable.
- [Only needs to be completed by one player in the group] Kill elites in Jintha’alor in The Hinterlands until you get
Wildwhisper Draught.
- Kill the final boss in Razorfen Downs and clear the area.
- Use
Wildwhisper Draught on the small ledge. This will cause the Spirit of Agamaggan to spawn.
- Turn in the quest at the Spirit of Agamaggan. You will get

- Collect 3
Wild Offering in Zul’Farrak, Maraudon, or Blackrock Depths. You can go to the same dungeon multiple times (e.g. 3x Zul’Farrak). Everyone in the group can loot the items regardless of whether having the quest or not. However, to get the rune, you will need to accept the quest sooner or later.
- Zul’Farrak:
- Kill 2-3 bosses (may depend on the boss combination) to spawn a spider ghost.
- The chat emote “You feel a shadowed presence” indicates that you did it correctly.
- The spider patrols around and south of Gahz'rilla.
- Use
Agamaggan's Roar near the spider ghost. This will cause the level 52 elite Delirious Ancient to spawn.
- Kill the mob and loot
Wild Offering.
- Kill 2-3 bosses (may depend on the boss combination) to spawn a spider ghost.
- Maraudon:
- Kill Princess Theradras to spawn a raptor ghost in the water on the upper level.

To learn the priest runes in SoD, at least one Meditation buff must be active. Some of the priest runes even require two active Meditation buffs. This is the case, for example, with Strength of Soul,

Shadow Word: Death.
Meditation buffs last 4 hours (even after death). You can get a Meditation buff in WoW Classic by kneeling in a given location (with /kneel) and waiting briefly.

How to Get a Second Meditation Buff?
You get a second meditation buff by kneeling in front of a Priest of another faith who has a Meditation buff active. The other priest must then /pray while targeting you.
Once you reach level 17, you can complete a short series of quests. This allows you to kneel in an allied race location and receive the corresponding meditation buff.
