Welcome to Day 3 of the Iowa high school wrestling tournament. Yesterday we set semifinal matchups across all three classes. Today, we'll narrow that down to two wrestlers at each weight vying for the title of 2023 state champion.

But in summary, Iowa City's Ben Kueteris still an animal. The top-seeded wrestler at 235 for Class 3A has pinned both his opponents to reach the semifinals. Not only did he win both his matches by fall, but he's only been on the mat for a grand total of 26 seconds this tournament. He pinned Ankeny's Will Hinrichs in 12 seconds to clinch his spot in the semis.

He's looking like he has a very good chance to win the state title Saturday, which would be his fourth. If he gets it done, he'd be just the 32nd Iowan in history to call themselves a four-time state champion.
The team races are shaping up well too. Don Bosco is in line for a historic five-peat in 1A if they can handle business today. Osage is running away with the 2A crown. In 3A, it's tight, but Waverly-Shell Rock is leading the pack after two days of wrestling.

9:04 p.m. W-SR leads the 3A team standings heading into Saturday
Waverly-Shell Rock continues to maintain a comfortable lead in the 3A team standings at the conclusion of Friday's semifinals and consolations.
8:47 p.m. Top seed Maddux Borcherding-Johnson reaches 3A finals at 285
Norwalk's Maddux Borcherding-Johnson, the top seed at 285, reached the 3A finals with a 6-4 victory over fourth seed Kyler Hall of Ames during Friday's semmifinals.
Borcherding-Johnson will face third seed Jake Walker of Waverly-Shell Rock, a 5-2 winner over second seed Carson Hagan of Dowling Catholic in the other 3A semifinal at 285.
8:37 p.m. Ben Kueter advances to the 3A finals at 220 with another fall
This time top-ranked Ben Kueter had to work a little.
Kueter pinned fifth seed Ayden Hoag of LeMars in 1:53 during the 3A semifinals Friday. He won his first two state matches in 14 and 12 seconds respectively.
Kueter will face second seed Joseph Lewis of Dubuque Hempstead, a 15-9 winner over Antonio Loving in the other semifinal, in the 220 finals Saturday.
8:25 p.m. Two freshmen to meet in the 3A finals at 195
Freshmen Danarii Mickel of Ames and Dreshaun Ross of Fort Dodge are in the 3A finals at 195.
Mickel, the fourth seed, upset top seed McCrae Hagarty of Waveryly-Shell Rock by injury default. Ross, the third seed, defeated second seed Harrison Gibson of Souteast Polk by major decision, 12-3, in the other 3A semifinal at 195.
8:10 p.m. Iowa City's Gabe Arnold cruises into the finals
Undefeated Iowa recruit Gabe Arnold of Iowa City thumped fourth seed Chase Hutchinson of Valley during the 3A semifinals at 182.
Arnold won by fall over Hutchinson in 3:22. He will face second seed Tate Naaktgeboren of Linn-Mar, an 11-3 winner by major decision over third seed Sam Zindel of Johnston in the other semifinal.
8:02 p.m. Top seed Caden McDermott faces Braylon Kammrad in the 3A finals at 170
Top seed Caden McDermott of Pleasant Valley defeated fifth seed Jacob Fistler of Dallas Center-Grimes by a 7-5 decision duirng one 3A semifinal at 170.
McDermott will meet 10th seed and upset-minded Braylon Kammrad of Lewis Center, who won the other semifinal over 11th seed Kaia Fox of Johnston by a 1-0 score, in tomorrow's finals.
7 :50 p.m. Damarion Ross and Danny Diaz make up the 3A finals at 160
Top seed Damarion Ross of Fort Dodge and third seed Danny Diaz of Waverly-Shell Rock will go toe-to-toe in the 3A finals at 160.
Ross defated fifth seed Cinsere Clark of West Des Miones Valley in a 1-0 thriller during one semifinal Friday. Diaz won the other semifinal over second seed Josiah Schaetzle of Dubuque Hempstead by a 7-1 decision.
7:39 p.m. Jacob Helgeson and Grant Kress to meet up in the 3A finals at 152
Top-seeded Jacob Helgeson of Johnston and third seed Grant Kress of Linn-Mar will meet in the 3A finals at 152.
Helgeson defeated fourth seeed Elijah Mendoza of Bettendorf in the semifinals by a 7-0 decision. Kress edged second seed Jace Anderson of Ankeny in a tiebreaker, 6-5, during the other semifinal.
7:26 p.m. Both 3A 145 semifinals go down to the wire
Both semifinals at 145 in 3A went down to the wire.
In one semifinal top seed Bas Diaz of Waverly-Shell Rock won by ultimate tiebreaker over fifth seeed Lucas Bruhl Ankeny Centennial. In the other semifinal Johnston's Brandon Blackorby, seeded third, defeated seventh seed Jaxon Miller of Carlisle, 3-0, after scoring all three points in the final 25 seconds.
7:11 p.m. Ryder Block to meet Kane Naaktgeboren in the 3A finals at 138
Top seed Ryder Block of will face off against second seed Kane Naaktgeboren of Linn-Mar in the 3A finals at 138.
Block topped fifth seed Nolan Fellers of Bondurant-Farrar by fall in 2:43 during the semifinals. Naaktgeboren pinned third seed Benjamin Hansen of Ankeny with one second left in the first period.
7:05 p.m. Carter Freeman and Brayden Parke to tussle in the 3A finals at 132
Top seed Carter Freeman of Waukee Northwest and third seed Brayden Parke of of Linn-Mar will meet in the 3A finals at 132.
Freeman defeated fifth seed Kael Kurtz of Iowa City in the semfinals by a 5-2 decision. Parke, the third seed, won in three overtimes over second seed Jayce Luna of Bettendorf with in a 4-3 thriller.
6:50 p.m. It'll be a Little Cy-Hawk battle in the 3A finals at 126
Top seeed Cael Seaton of Iowa City and third seed Jabari Hinson of Ames will meet in the 3A finals at 126.
Seaton defeated Cinderella story Ayden Golden of North Scott in the semifinals by major decision, 14-5. Scott is seeded 12th.
Hinson knocked off seventh seed Maximus Riggins of Southeast Polk in their semifinal match in a 3-1 overtime thriller.
6:40 p.m. The 3A 120 finals are set
The 3A 120 state wrestling finals will be between top seed Koufax Christensen of Waukee Northwest and Indianola's Bowen Downey.
Christensen, the top seed, won his semifinal match over fourth seed Blake Gioimo of Cedar Rapids Prairie by fall in 5:13. Downey, seeded second, defeated Bettendorf's Timothy Koester, the third seed, in a 13-10 battle during to earn a spot in the finals.
6:30 p.m. Dru Ayala and Jake Knight will meet in the 3A finals at 113
Fort Dodge's Dru Ayala and Bettendorf freshman Jake Knight will meet in the 3A 113 finals.
Ayala, the top seed, defeated Waverly-Shell Rock's Ryker Graff, the fifth seed, by a 5-4 decision in three overtimes. Knight was a 2-1 winner over Bondurant-Farrar's Cole Fisher in the other 3A semifinal at 113.
The exciting 3A 113 semifinals are what state wrestling is all about.
6:14 p.m. Tyler Harper and Alexander Pierce the first to reach the 3A finals
Norwalk's Tyler Harper stunned Southeast Polk's Carter Pierson in the 3A semifinals at 106.
Harper, the fourth seed, advances to the final after pinning Pierson, the top seed, in just 18 seconds. Harper will face second seed Alexander Pierce of Iowa City West, an 11-4 semifinal winner over Ankeny Centennial's Cale Vandermark, in tomorrow's 3A championship match at 106.

In the fifth consolation round of the 182-pound bracket, there are three wrestlers who had double-digit seeds. They are No. 17 Logan Montgomery, No. 13 Chase Wickwire, and No. 14 Cade Shirk.
The lone exception is No. 2 MaKade Bloker.
