How to get Ergo Sum in Destiny 2: The Final Shape (2024)

Ergo Sum is an Exotic sword in Destiny 2, added in The Final Shape expansion. This is not only the sword you saw on your grave back in the Corridors of Time — giving it some major lore significance — it’s also capable of rolling with Exotic perks from other Exotic weapons. It’s also the first Special weapon sword in Destiny 2.

In this Destiny 2 guide, I’ll walk you through how to get Ergo Sum, including a rundown of the quests you’ll need to complete to do so (including both parts of “Queens”), plus the potential weapon perks you can get for Ergo Sum.

If you’re after other The Final Shape Exotics, then we have an explainer on how to get Microcosm and Still Hunt.

How to get Ergo Sum in Destiny 2

Unlocking Ergo Sum is fairly straightforward in Destiny 2: The Final Shape. Here’s a quick glance at everything you’ll need to do:

  1. Complete The Final Shape campaign
  2. Pick up the “Destined Heroes” quest
  3. Complete “Queens, part 1”
  4. Complete the “Found in the Dark” quest
  5. Complete the“Lost in the Light” quest
  6. Finish “Destined Heroes” by completing “Queens, part 2” to get Ergo Sum

Once you land back in The Lost City after the campaign, talk to Ghost and he’ll give you some lore and then offer you the “Destined Heroes” quest. From here, tune into the radio, and then start the “Queens, part 1” quest nearby.

Queens isn’t a story mission but is as straightforward as one, save for a segment about unlocking Hive runes. Tip: If you kill one of the Hive Knights, they’ll drop a sword, which you can use to redirect elemental damage into the Hive runes.

The game will give you a bit of a tutorial about this, but one thing it doesn’t tell you is that you need to turn on all three of the runes in that particular element before the mission will progress. Keep going until you finish “Queens.”

Talk to Micah-10 once you load back into The Lost City and pick up “Convalescence: Rootbound,” which will be important for getting a different Exotic, Microcosm. From there, talk to Cayde-6 in The Lost City to pick up the Exotic quest “Wild Card,” which you not only need to complete to enter the Salvation’s Edge raid, it’ll also net you the Still Hunt Exotic. Talk to Ghost again and pick up the “Found in the Dark” and “Lost in the Light” quests, which will help fill out your Prismatic abilities even further. Follow the steps to complete both of those missions.

After you’ve helped out Caiatl and Mithrax, it’s time to jump into “Queens, part 2,” which you’ll find in The Lost City. This is another straightforward mission, so follow the objectives until you finish it.

When you land back in The Lost City, talk to Ghost one more time and he’ll give you the Dyadic Prism. Travel to the new landing zone in Sacraium in the far-right area of the map to claim your first Ergo Sum sword and gain the ability to get random rolls.

Every time you get an Ergo Sum, it’ll come with a different sword frame, different blade perks, different guard perks, and one of several Exotic perks taken from other weapons — which also affects the sword’s element type.

The one perk that’s always on Ergo Sum is Transcendent Duelist, which allows the weapon to use Special ammo, but causes you to pick up less ammo when you grab a brick off the ground. It also causes kills with Ergo Sum to charge both Transcendence bars. While you’re Transcendent, Ergo Sum does more damage and killing targets lengthens your Transcendence window.

To get more Ergo Sum swords, you can either complete the new Pathfinder bounty system on The Pale Heart (you can get two swords a week doing this) or you can farm the matchmade version of the Overthrow activity, which doesn’t seem to have a limit.

As for what you can get on Ergo Sum, here’s the list of Exotic perks via Light.gg, a database site for Destiny 2:

  • Wolfpack Round (Gjallarhorn): Heavy attacks grant cluster missiles to sword wielders.
  • Gathering Light (Traveler’s Chosen): Stowing weapon restores ability energy based on final blows.
  • Sacred Flame (Ticuu’s Divination): Heavy attacks mark targets, light attacks detonate them.
  • The Perfect Fifth (Polaris Lance): Every five hits attaches a delayed explosion.
  • Arc Conductor (Riskrunner): Heavy attacks surge lightning from the user.
  • Stormbringer (Cloudstrike): Rapid final blows create a lightning storm.
  • Unplanned Reprieve (Telesto): Heavy attacks emit delayed detonating projectiles.
  • Insectoid Robot Grenades (The Colony): Final blows deploy homing robot grenades.
